Do you know your
sleeping achitecture?
Since we can measure brain activity, we know that sleep is a very active state. There are four phases.
In the first phase, our body begins to relax. We can wake up again very quickly.
You surely know the unpleasant feeling of being torn out of sleep because you are dreaming about falling down a staircase.

In the second phase, our body is separated from the outside world. In this phase we are neither deeply asleep nor are we really awake.
It is not for nothing that this phase is called the light sleep phase. We spend about 45% of our sleep in the light sleep phase.
After about half an hour we fall into a deep sleep. Our breath, heartbeat and blood pressure drop. In the deep sleep phase, vital repair processes take place that extends into the cell nucleus.

The next phase follows after about 45 minutes. In the so-called dream sleep phase, we begin to dream, with our eyes moving back and forth very quickly. This is why this sleep phase is also called the REM sleep phase.
A so-called sleep cycle lasts about 90 to 120 minutes and is passed through between four and six times by healthy people.
The most important sleep phase is the deep sleep phase because vital repair processes take place.
But the dream sleep phase is also important because we process the experiences of everyday life.

Your learnings:
- There are 4 sleep stages, which repeat about 4-6 times a night.
- In the deep sleep phase, vital repair processes take place.
- In the dream sleep phase, we process mental processes.
